Pack Positions

The Pack is supported by a team of volunteers, all with the single focus of ensuring that our scouts have the leadership, resources, and opportunities for a fantastic scouting experience.

Charter Organization Representative (COR)

Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age, appointed by the chartered organization and registered as an adult leader of the BSA.
  • A person of good character, familiar with organization procedures, with a deep concern for the pack’s success.
  • Be a member of the charter organization (Lloyd Road School PTO)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the unit Key 3 team and meet together several times a year.
  • Serve as a liaison between your units, your organization, and the council structure.
  • Encourage unit leaders and committee members to take advantage of training opportunities and to regularly attend district roundtables.
  • Promote well-planned unit programs.
  • Organize units to serve the youth needs of your organization and the community.
  • Promote the recruitment of new members.
  • See that youth participants and adult volunteers advance from one program phase to the next.
  • Assist with annual unit charter renewal.
  • Encourage unit committee meetings.
  • Encourage the pursuit of Journey to Excellence performance.
  • Inform and engage organization leaders and members.
  • Encourage active outdoor unit programs.
  • Emphasize advancement and recognition.
  • Secure district help when needed.
  • Use approved unit finance policies.
  • Encourage recognition of leaders.
  • Cultivate resources to support your organization’s units.
  • Represent your organization on the council and district levels.
  • Serve on your council’s relationship committees when asked

  • Someone respected in the community, who shows the willingness and ability to be the Cubmaster’s chief adviser.
  • Completes and maintains up-to-date BSA training, including Pack Committee Fast Start Training and Cub Scout Leader Basic Training and BSA Youth Protection Training.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a close relationship with the chartered organization representative, keeping this key person informed of the needs of the pack that must be brought to the attention of the organization or the district.
  • Confer with the Cubmaster on policy matters relating to the Cub Scout program and the chartered organization.
  • Call and preside at pack leaders’ meetings Assigning duties to, and training, committee members
  • Planning for pack charter review, roundup, and re-registration
  • Approving bills before payment by the pack treasurer
  • Conduct the annual pack program planning conference and pack leaders’ meetings.
  • Work with the chartered organization representative to provide adequate and safe facilities for pack meetings.
  • Cooperate with the Cubmaster on council-approved money earning projects so the pack can earn money for materials and equipment.
  • Manage finances through adequate financial records.
  • Maintain adequate pack records and take care of pack property.
  • If the Cubmaster is unable to serve, assume active direction of the pack until a successor is recruited and registered.
  • Appoint a committee member or other registered adult to be responsible for Youth Protection training.
  • Provide a parent training program.
  • Develop and maintain strong pack-troop relationships, sharing with the troop committee the need for graduations into the troop.
  • Support the policies of the BSA.

Cubmaster

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a quality, fun, year-round program to the Cub Pack
  • Conduct the program according to BSA policies
  • Receive the appropriate training, including Cubmaster specific training
  • Attend monthly Cub Scout Roundtables, to receive information about district and council policies and programs
  • Carry out the Pack program with the support of the Pack Committee, including leading monthly pack meetings
  • Carry out the goals of the chartering organization within the Pack program
  • Work with the Pack Committee to recruit adult leadership
  • Work with the Pack Committee to develop the Pack budget
  • Support the Pack Den Leaders and encourage them to get the appropriate training
  • Encourage the Pack Den Leaders to work toward Cub Scout Leader awards
  • Encourage Webelos to cross over to a Scouts BSA Troop
  • Communicate with parents about the Pack program and help to educate them about the Cub Scout program
  • Encourage family participation in the Cub Scout program

Treasurer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the funds of the Pack.
  • Maintain the Pack bank account.
  • Oversee Pack account at Monmouth Council office
  • Accept and track dues payments.
  • Deposit checks and other funds into the Pack accounts.
  • Produce checks or other means of payment for Pack expenses.
  • Maintain and produce financial report(s) for Committee meetings.

Assistant Cubmaster

  • Must be at least 18 years old, appointed by the chartered organization and registered as an adult leader of the BSA.
  • A person of good character, familiar with organization procedures, with a deep concern for the pack’s success.
  • Completes and maintains up-to-date position specific training and Youth Protection Training (YPT).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cubmaster as needed. Be ready to fill in for the Cubmaster, if necessary.
  • Complete Cubmaster Fast Start Training and Cub Scout Leader Basic Training.
  • Attend monthly roundtables.
  • Complete BSA Youth Protection Training.
  • Participate in pack meetings.
  • Supervise den chiefs and see that they are trained.
  • Work with neighborhood troops that supply den chiefs and into which Cub Scouts may
    graduate.
  • Help inform pack leaders of training opportunities and arrange for them to attend training
    sessions.
  • Work with the pack committee to develop and promote an ongoing plan for recruiting new
    children.
  • Work with the Cubmaster and pack committee on pack re-registration.
  • Assist in pack activities such as dinners, pinewood derbies, bike safety workshops, service
    projects, etc.
  • Work with the pack committee on outings to see that the pack and dens qualify for the
    National Summertime Pack Award.
  • Participate in the annual pack program planning conference and pack leaders’ meetings.

Pack Secretary

  • Completes and maintains up-to-date position specific training and Youth Protection Training (YPT).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep minutes for Pack Committee meetings and distribute them to the Pack Committee in a timely manner.
  • Send out notices to the Pack (either via mail or email) for upcoming Pack events and Committee meetings
  • Keep a current copy of the Pack roster and keep attendance for meetings.
  • Keep a list of required BSA forms and materials on hand.
  • Maintains an inventory of Pack-owned equipment.
  • Let the Cubmaster, Den Leaders, and other adults involved in the Pack know what forms and printed resources are available .
  • Provide Den Leaders with forms to keep track of their dens advancement.
  • Write thank you notes to anyone who provides help to the Pack and take care of other correspondence.

Den Leader

Our den leaders are the backbone of our scouting program. Each den has a den leader and may have assistant den leaders and/or den chiefs. Although the duties and responsibilities may seem overwhelming, they all boil down to making sure the scouts in a den have the opportunities for advancement and a great time.

Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age, appointed by the chartered organization and registered as an adult leader of the BSA.
  • A person of good character, familiar with organization procedures, with a deep concern for the pack’s success.
  • Completes and maintains up-to-date BSA training, including Fast Start training for Cub Scout den leaders and BSA Youth Protection Training.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Give leadership in carrying out the pack program in the den.
  • Complete Den Leader Fast Start Training and Cub Scout Leader Basic Training.
  • Complete BSA Youth Protection Training.
  • Lead the den in its participation at pack meetings. Serve as den host or hostess for den
    parents at pack meetings.
  • Work in harmony with other den and pack leaders.
  • Cooperate with the Cubmaster (or assistant Cubmaster) in recruiting new children.
  • Help train the den chief and guide them to work with the Cub Scouts. See that they receive
    recognition for their efforts at den and pack meetings.
  • Meet regularly with the den chief. Let them help plan den meetings and den activities, and
    allow them to serve as den activities assistant.
  • Use Boy’s’ Life and Scouting magazines, Cub Scout Program Helps, the scouts’ program
    books, and other Cub Scouting literature as sources for program ideas.
  • Maintain a friendly relationship with Cub Scouts; encourage them to earn the advancement
    awards. Keep accurate advancement records and see that children receive recognition for their
    achievements.
  • Stimulate the Cub Scouts’ imaginations on the program theme for the month and help the
    den prepare its stunts and exhibits for the pack meeting.
  • Help the den and pack earn the National Summertime Pack Award.
  • Help establish a close working relationship with the assistant den leader and den chief,
    functioning as a den leadership team.
  • Develop a good working relationship with den parents and families. Use their talents to help
    enrich the den program. Hold den parents’ meetings as often as needed to get acquainted and
    strengthen den operation. Have open communications with den families.
  • Involve den parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents in outings and other den activities so children will have additional role models.
  • See that a leader is available for all den meetings and activities. Call on the assistant den
    leader to fill in when necessary.
  • Take part in the annual pack program planning conference and pack leaders’ meetings (or
    den leader-den leader coach meetings).
  • Help set a good example for the children by behavior, attitude, and proper uniforming.
  • Support the policies of the Scout BSA.

Pack Advancement Chair

  • Completes and maintains up-to-date position specific training and Youth Protection Training (YPT). 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • ​Accept den advancement reports from den leaders and prompt them to enter data in Scoutbook.
  • Provide advancement reports to den leaders or scout families upon request.
  • Enter advancements, awards and other data into Packmaster as needed.
  • Purchase badges and other advancement items from the Scout Shop or the Monmouth Council office.
  • Organize advancement items and awards and deliver them to the Cubmaster for presentation at monthly Pack meetings and our annual Blue and Gold Banquet crossover ceremony.
  • Work closely with the Cubmaster to ensure that advancements are being delivered correctly and in a timely manner.

Recruitment Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive recruiting plan targeting Kindergarten through 5th grade boys and girls.
  • Leverage print and electronic media to deliver information on Pack 66 to families of scout aged children.
  • Maintain our public Facebook page to ensure timely and up-to-date information is being provided to the public.
  • Work with the Cubmaster to ensure spring and fall recruiting events are part of the annual Pack program.
  • Advertise recruiting events to the public, targeting local elementary schools and other public spaces such as local libraries and community centers.
  • Develop flyers and other information media to distribute to prospective scout families.
  • Obtain the necessary permits from the Township of Aberdeen and Borough of Matawan to place signs and banners during our annual spring and fall recruiting periods.
  • Place Pack 66 signs in the established public locations during the spring and fall recruiting periods.
  • Leverage volunteers from across the entire Pack family to spread the word about Cub Scouting and Pack 66

Fundraising Chair

Works with the fundraising chair to plan and run fundraising events. Some of the fundraisers from the past include:

Philanthropy Chair

Our philanthropy chair leads the philanthropy committee to arrange for various opportunities for scouts to give back to the community.

Philanthropy Committee

Works with the philanthropy chair to plan and execute our philanthropy events. The committee is responsible for:

  • Our largest event is scouting for food where scouts collect for the local food pantry.
  • Arrange trail maintenance and community clean up events.

Trip Committee Chair

Trip Committee

Works with our trip coordinator to plan and run our trips. We try to run 2-3 trips per scouting year. In the recent past the pack has:

  • Gone to the InfoAge museum
  • Gone to Turtleback zoo
  • Attended a Titans hockey game
  • Attended a Lakewood Blueclaws game
  • Gone snowtubing
  • Gone maple sugaring
  • Gone to the Army-Navy Game
  • Gone to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Westchester

Trunk-Or-Treat Committee (October Pack Meeting)

The October Pack meeting is our Trunk-Or-Treat. It usually includes pumpkin painting for the kids and their siblings and parents decorating the trunks of their cars and giving out candy to the scouts as they show off their costumes.

Holiday Party Committee (December Pack Meeting)

The December pack meeting is our annual holiday party. We collect unwrapped gifts for underprivileged children, make holiday cards for our community’s seniors, and have a holiday gift exchange (gift value not to exceed $10). The committee works with the Cubmaster or Assistant Cubmaster to make this event happen.

Blue and Gold Committee (February Pack Meeting)

The February pack meeting is our celebration of the birthday of scouting and we throw a birthday bash. Scouts and their families are invited to join us for games, music, and of course food. The committee works to plan and run the the Blue and Gold event with the support of the Pack committee.

Pinewood Derby Committee (March Pack Meeting)

The March pack meeting is our pinewood derby. The pinewood derby is the wood car racing event of cub scouts. Scouts build their own unpowered, unmanned miniature cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles. The pinewood derby committee is responsible for getting trophies, setting up the track, running the races, and tearing down the track. The local troop will often supply older scouts to help run the event.

Pack Picnic Committee (June Pack Meeting)

The last pack meeting of the year is held in June and is our pack picnic. It is here where our scouts who have achieved their rank over the course of the year are recognized. The pack picnic committee is responsible for coordinating the potluck portion of the picnic, setting up the picnic, arranging activities during the picnic for the scouts, and cleaning up after the picnic. The pack picnic committee is supported by the recruitment coordinator, Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster.
